PM: Cambodia Will Never Close Again, Learn to Live with Covid-19

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen tells people to learn to live with Covid-19 because Cambodia can not go back to closing the country again. The Prime Minister urged the people to protect themselves responsibly from the Covid-19 to ensure that Cambodia returns to the blockade.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Morodok Techo National Stadium this morning, which was attended by a large number of people for the first time after the reopening of the country, the Prime Minister said that the government continues to vaccinate the people, which is the main task to save the lives of the people while he also encourages people to use the normal lifestyle in a new way to protect themselves from Covid-19 disease.

He says, "With the continuation of the vaccination process, we must continue our efforts to protect ourselves, with each individual, each family, each community, taking responsibility for safety issues to ensure that our country does not closing again. We have to accept the fact that Covid is not over yet, but we cannot close the country or close the business forever."

With this statement, he also called on the people not to panic about the discovery of the new Covid-19 mutation (Omicron), as the new mutation virus has not yet been shown to cause the same number of deaths as the mutation Alpha virus. Prime Minister Hun Sen is urging citizens to maintain self-defense measures rather than panic. He urges the people to join together to ensure that no problems occur when Cambodia organizes the 2023 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

On Friday night, the Ministry of Health announced the discovery of a new Covid-19 "Omicron", the second case in Cambodia from a 25-year-old Irish man traveling from Kenya. The first case involved a 23-year-old Cambodian woman living in Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province, who was 15 weeks pregnant on a flight from Ghana (West Africa) and was discoverer on 14 December.
